Russian airlines are suspending all international flying except to Belarus at the recommendation of Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency.
The recommendation was prompted by concerns that aircraft leased from EU-based companies could be seized upon arrival at airports in the EU. A sanctions package requires companies based in the Eurozone to terminate lease deals with Russian aircraft. For example, Ireland-based AerCap Holdings leases 152 planes to Russian airlines, according to Bloomberg.
State-owned Aeroflot, which was the only Russian airline flying to the U.S. prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, will enact its suspension beginning Tuesday, March 7. Those holding tickets on canceled Aeroflot flights will be eligible for refunds.
S7, Russia's second-largest airline, suspended international flying on Saturday.
The FAA had previously banned all Russian aircraft from U.S. airspace.
