Spirit Airlines will locate a crew base at Newark Liberty Airport in September.
The airline expects to initially base approximately 200 pilots in Newark, which will join Spirit's existing crew bases at Atlanta, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Miami and Orlando.
Spirit said it is investing in the Newark base to bolster reliability. The carrier is the second-largest operator in Newark with up to 32 departures per day to 22 destinations. Spirit said it has added seven destinations from Newark in the past year.
