ISTANBUL -- Turkish Airlines will launch service to Detroit on Nov. 15.
The flights will be operated three times per week, chairman Ahmet Bolat said during a press conference at IATA's Annual General Meeting.
Future Turkish plans include service to Orlando and Denver, he added, plus frequency increases on other routes.
Turkish currently flies from Istanbul to 13 U.S. destinations. Detroit will be Turkish's 340th global destination.
The carrier also has substantial long-term growth plans. Turkish is currently winding up negotiations with Airbus and Boeing on a massive aircraft order. A formal announcement will be made in a couple months, Bolat said, and it will include approximately 400 narrowbodies and 200 widebodies.
The order will push the Star Alliance carrier toward its plan of having a fleet of 800 planes 10 years from now, up from 435 aircraft at the end of this year, Bolat said.
