United retired its final Boeing 747 in November. However,
the carrier is giving aficionados of the original jumbo jet another chance for
a United 747 experience.
An auction currently live on the MileagePlus Exclusives
website
gives MileagePlus members the chance to use MileagePlus points to bid on a June
1-3 trip to Memphis that will be centered around a June 2 excursion to United's
aircraft disassembly center in Tupelo, Miss. United has three 747s at the
disassembly center.
In Tupelo, the five winning bidders along with one guest
each will be treated to a private tour of the disassembly center. The tour will
end with a champagne toast in the first-class cabin of the aircraft that flew
from San Francisco to Honolulu on Nov. 7 in what was United's last 747 revenue
flight.
After that, the auction winners will have dinner under the
belly of the plane. United has made two of the auction packages available to
all MileagePlus members. Two more are reserved for MileagePlus Premier members.
One package is reserved for MileagePlus card members.
On Wednesday morning, 156,000 award
miles was the top bid.
