Beginning April 24, United Airlines will require flight
attendants to wear masks while on duty.
United said the directive is in line with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidance for
situations in which social distancing is difficult. United is the second
mainline U.S. carrier with such a directive in place, joining Frontier.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents
United flight attendants, on Thursday penned a letter to the Department of Transportation
and the Department of Health and Human Services imploring the federal
government to mandate masks for all commercial flight crews and passengers.
At least 250 U.S. flight attendants have tested positive for
the Covid-19 virus, according to the union.
