Discount carrier Volaris will launch one-stop routes from the U.S. to Costa Rica in the spring.

The company's announcement follows the DOT's decision on Dec. 14 to grant Volaris' Costa Rican subsidiary a foreign air carrier permit. The subsidiary operates as Volaris Costa Rica and tickets can be purchased through the same Volaris.com website that lists Volaris routes to Mexico and other Latin American destinations.

Volaris Costa Rica will begin its U.S. operations with flights to San Jose, Costa Rica, from Los Angeles, New York and Washington Dulles. Each of the routes will make a stop in San Salvador. The Los Angeles service begins March 15, New York on April 17 and Washington on May 16.
