Lyft partners with Sixt to expand car rental options

Lyft is partnering with Sixt to enable car rentals through the Lyft app beginning in three U.S. cities in August, the companies announced, with plans to expand in the coming months to more U.S. locations.

Lyft users in Seattle, Las Vegas and Miami will be able to access Sixt's inventory through a "Rentals" tab. Users select vehicle class, reservation dates and location, then can select the exact make and model of their rental vehicle. Users also will have the ability to add insurance coverage and other ancillaries.

Rentals also include $10 in Lyft credit for use in transportation home from the lot after the rental car is dropped off.

Lyft has been piloting a rental program with its own open-air rental lots in San Francisco and Los Angeles since last year. Sixt in recent months expanded its own U.S. footprint by taking over airport locations from the bankrupt Advantage Rent a Car.
