The Active Network acquired meetings tech provider StarCite. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in San Diego, the Active Network develops online registration and other capabilities for community activities and the outdoors and sports markets. It claims 47,000 global business customers and 70 million transactions in 2011.

In conjunction with the StarCite acquisition, Active launched a new business-solutions division that will focus on meetings management.

"StarCite has built a solid reputation in the strategic meetings-management market which is an excellent complement to the enterprise corporations and small and medium-sized businesses we already serve," according to Active Network Business Solutions' senior vice president and senior general manager, J.R. Sherman.

StarCite after its 1999 debut became one of the most prominent technology providers in the meetings industry, but after years of operating losses, executives last year acknowledged the company was seeking new investment.
