WASHINGTON -- The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA), forced to withdraw
its previous proposal for a new passenger pre-screening system
called CAPPS II, unveiled a new version called Secure Flight under
which the TSA will check passenger names against an expanded
terrorist watch list.
The TSA said there
will be a redress mechanism for people who get on the watch list by
mistake.
Separately, the TSA
will conduct a very limited test to determine whether comparing
passenger information to commercially available data can help it
more accurately verify an individuals identity.
