Closed Barcelo resort in D.R. to reopen under Sunscape flag

|

Sunscape Resorts & Spas will make its Dominican Republic debut next year with the reflagging of the Barcelo Puerto Plata, which closed last week.

The 585-room beachfront resort on the island's northern coast will undergo “extensive” renovations, according to AMResorts, operator of the Sunscape brand.

The resort, which is adjacent to an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, will have eight restaurants and bars. The property is owned by the Sandretto family, which also owns AMResorts’ Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa in Mexico.

AMResorts oversees six Sunscape properties: three in Mexico, two in Jamaica and one in Curacao.
