Cordish Cos. Has proposed a $2.2 billion mixed-use district
near Madrid that would include as many 2,700 hotel rooms and more
than 1 million square feet of retail space.
The Live! District would be built in Torres de la Alameda,
about 25 miles east of central Madrid. The project would have about 275,000
square feet of convention space, 125,000 square feet of gaming space and 200,000
square feet of live-performance venues.
The Baltimore-based developer made its proposal to the
Madrid Regional Autonomous Government on Dec. 1, and called the project "Spain's
first integrated entertainment resort destination."
Cordish is also part of a partnership that is aiming to
develop Philadelphia's Live! Hotel & Casino, which is slated to have 200
hotel rooms and 2,000 slot machines. The city's planning commission approved
the project last year.
Cordish's other projects include the Ballpark Village
mixed-use district in St. Louis and Houston's Bayou Place.
