Kerzner International said a fire at Atlantis, The Palm will not delay the Dubai resort's opening.
Dubai firefighters contained the lobby blaze within an hour, according to a police spokesman. Eyewitnesses described a thick plume of black smoke stretching hundreds of feet into the air above the arched dome of the lobby.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. There were no injuries.
In a statement, Kerzner said the 1,539-room oasis resort will open on Sept. 24, as scheduled.
The $1.5 billion Dubai resort, modeled after the Atlantis built in the Bahamas in the early 1990s, rises from the coastline of the Palm Jumeirah, the largest manmade island in the world.
