Marriott International's Edition brand has opened the Red Sea Edition, a resort on Saudi Arabia's Shura Island.
Shura Island, which connects to Saudi Arabia's western coastline via a two-mile bridge, is the main hub island within developer Red Sea Global's Red Sea Project megadevelopment.
The 240-room Edition sits on half a mile of private beachfront and offers views of Shura Links, the island's 18-hole golf course.
The resort has multiple dining venues, expansive spa and fitness facilities and 10,700 square feet of event space, including a ballroom with a capacity of up to 500 guests.
The Red Sea Edition will be joined on Shura Island by SLS and InterContinental resorts in the coming weeks, with eight additional Shura Island resorts opening after that under the Faena, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah, Miraval, Raffles and Rosewood brands.
According to Red Sea Global, the Red Sea Project will ultimately have 50 hotels and more than 1,000 residences spread across 22 islands and six inland sites by 2030.
The Red Sea Edition is the second Edition hotel to open in Saudia Arabia, following the debut of the Jeddah Edition last year.
