The Equinox Hotel-New York has introduced a vaccine mandate for guests following the announcement that New York City will soon require Covid-19 vaccination to access certain businesses and services.

A week ago, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city will start mandating Covid-19 vaccinations to eat indoors at restaurants, attend a show or work out at a gym.

"In order to ensure the safety of our guests, members and team, Equinox Hotel-New York will be implementing a vaccine mandate," the hotel said in a statement.

Effective Sept. 13, guests are required to show proof of vaccination upon arrival, which can be in the form of a physical immunization card, photo of the immunization card or a digital vaccine pass.

An offshoot of the gym brand Equinox, the first Equinox Hotel opened in 2019 in New York's Hudson Yards neighborhood.

Public Hotel in Manhattan said on Aug. 6 that it will require proof of vaccination for all guests, employees and visitors starting Sept. 5.

The New York City vaccination policy will go into effect on Aug. 16 but inspections and enforcement are not slated to begin until Sept. 13.

Correction: The Equinox Hotel's vaccine mandate will go into effect on Sept. 13, not immediately as previously reported.
