Fairmont acquires London's famed Savoy Hotel

TORONTO -- Fairmont Hotels & Resorts assumed management of The Savoy Hotel, London's famed luxury hotel.

The hotel, which will be renamed The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel, was acquired as part of a joint venture with the Bank of Scotland and Kingdom Hotels International.

Built in 1889, the 263-room Savoy Hotel features views of the Thames and is located near Covent Garden, West End theaters, Trafalgar Square and the citys financial district.

The Savoy also is Fairmont's second hotel acquisition in Europe. Last December, Fairmont, Kingdom Hotels and the Bank of Scotland, acquired the Monte Carlo Grand and intend to acquire other luxury hotels in Europe as well.
