When Pixar Pier opens this summer at the Disney California
Adventure Park, one of the main new attractions will be the Incredicoaster, a
transformation of the former California Screamin' rollercoaster into a ride
inspired by Pixar's "The Incredibles" movie, just in time for the
June 14 release of "Incredibles 2."
The Incredicoaster will integrate a storyline featuring the
characters of the film -- the Parr family will race alongside riders as they
attempt to catch baby Jack-Jack.
The ride will be the centerpiece of a complete overhaul of
the area formerly known as Paradise Pier, which is being reimagined as a new
permanent land, Pixar Pier, and will feature four new neighborhoods inspired by
Pixar movies.
In addition to the Incredibles neighborhood that will
feature the Incredicoaster, there will be a "Toy Story" neighborhood with
a Toy Story-themed carousel. Another neighborhood will be inspired by the film "Inside
Out" and will feature a new family-friendly attraction that is scheduled
to open at a later date.
A fourth neighborhood will highlight characters from a
variety of Pixar stories. For instance, on Mickey's Fun Wheel, each of the 24
gondolas will showcase a different Pixar character (the face of Mickey Mouse
remains on the wheel). At the Games of the Boardwalk, new games will include
characters from "A Bug's Life," "La Luna" and "Wall-E."
Ariel's Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be
transformed into a Pixar-themed lounge.
The remaining areas of the original Paradise Pier --
including Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumping Jellyfish, Goofy's
Sky School, Golden Zephyr and The Little Mermaid -- Ariel's Undersea Adventure,
will remain and become part a new land called Paradise Park.
Prior to the opening of Pixar Pier in summer (a precise date
has not been established), a celebration of all things Pixar will begin on
April 13 with Pixar Fest, a limited-time event that will include a fireworks
show and Pixar-themed parades. Pixar theming will also be integrated into food
and beverage items, merchandising and live performances.
An end date for Pixar
Fest has not been announced
