The former Barcelo Los Cabos reopened as the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos on Nov. 7, marking Hyatt's entry into the all-inclusive market as part of a partnership with Playa Hotels and Resorts.
Playa owns and operates all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico.
"By creating a new Hyatt-branded experience that is customized and distinctive as an all-inclusive offering, we are combining the strength of a powerful global brand with Playa's experience in owning and managing all-inclusive properties," said Bruce Wardinski, Playa’s CEO.
The Hyatt Ziva brand will cater to families, while the Hyatt Zilara brand will target adults only.
The Hyatt Zilara Cancun, the former Royal Cancun, will open later this month.
Both properties will undergo multimillion-dollar renovations in 2014.
The Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos has eight restaurants, six bars and lounges, meeting and event venues, a kids' camp, an adults-only pool area and a water feature area with fountains and a splash pool.
The next Hyatt Ziva to open will be the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall in Jamaica, the former Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall. It is currently being renovated and is scheduled to open in late 2014.
