The former Mandarin Oriental Miami was demolished Sunday via controlled implosion, clearing the way for a new luxury development on Miami's private island community of Brickell Key.
According to The Associated Press, the 23-story hotel collapsed in under 20 seconds, following a series of charges detonated at around 8:30 a.m.
The Mandarin Oriental had closed on May 31, 2025, after 25 years in operation in a building that was new when the hotel opened.
The demolition paves the way for a much larger Mandarin Oriental development, a two-tower hotel and residential project on a 3.5-acre waterfront site. It is slated for completion in 2030.

The hotel tower will have 151 guestrooms as well as 61 private residences and 28 hotel residences, according to Mandarin Oriental and developer Swire Properties. The second tower will house 220 Mandarin Oriental residences.
The hotel will be home to multiple restaurants and bars, meeting and event space, and a Spa at Mandarin Oriental.
