The second phase of the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel renovation will be completed on Dec. 1, unveiling 319 guestrooms and suites, Puerto Rico's first Hammam spa, two pool lounges with butler service and a second restaurant from chef Juan Jose Cuevas.

Built in 1919 by Frederick William Vanderbilt, the historic San Juan hotel is in the final stage of completing a $200 million redo. The first phase opened in October 2012 and included event spaces and 1919, the lobby bar and signature restaurant also helmed by Cuevas.

Condado Vanderbilt terrace"The prestige that the Vanderbilt represents for Puerto Rico is unsurpassed. The reopening not only signifies a renaissance of an iconic period but also holds a much larger implication for Puerto Rico's resurging economy," said Jose Suarez, president of International Hospitality Enterprises, the hotel’s development and management company.

Two new suite towers will house 105 one- and two-bedroom suites, many with ocean views. Each tower will feature a 3,000-squre-foot Vanderbilt suite on the penthouse level.

All suites will have butler service 24 hours a day.

The oceanfront terrace provides a pathway to two new pool lounge areas that include a mirrored pool with waterfall on one side and an infinity pool on the edge of the Atlantic on the other.

A striking element of Vanderbilt's spa will be a private hammam that features a marble-slab heated massage bed, marble benches and walls of mosaic marble.

Rates start at $350 to $600 per night, double, for guestrooms and from $650 to $3,000 per night for suites.

The landmark hotel's original architectural firm was Warren and Wetmore, which had done the New York Biltmore Hotel and Grand Central Station.
