Oakwood opens Tokyo property

TOKYO -- Oakwood Worldwide, the Los Angeles-based corporate housing provider, opened the Oakwood Residence Akasaka, a serviced apartment property in Tokyo.

According to Oakwood, the company is the first international management company to open an extended-stay property in Japan. The residence is targeted to extended-stay travelers and relocating executives who otherwise would have to stay in hotels.

The Oakwood Residence is located in Akasaka, Minato-ku, which is one of Tokyo's financial centers. The property is located near the U.S. Embassy. The residence has 41 one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments.

Floor plans range from 700 square feet to more than 1,400 square feet.

Management opted for Western styling with Japanese touches, and the company will include its Oakwood study station, which is a cabinet designed to hold personal computers.

Apartments also have multiple phone lines; high-speed Internet access; a balcony; a kitchen; a washer and dryer, and maid service three times a week.

The property will be managed by Oakwood Asia Pacific, which is a joint venture of Oakwood Worldwide and Colony Capital, an investment firm.

Oakwood Asia Pacific also manages properties in Guangzhou, China; Manila, Philippines, and Bangkok.

Colony Capital owns the Oakwood Residence Akasaka. Rates for the Oakwood Residence Akasaka start at $215 per day, and the rate in yen is guaranteed.
