Old D.C. building could become Waldorf Astoria hotel

Washington-OldPostOfficeBuildingHilton Worldwide is proposing that Washington, D.C.’s Old Post Office Pavilion on Pennsylvania Avenue be redeveloped into a 245-room Waldorf Astoria hotel.

The 112-year-old building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, would be rebuilt to include retail space, four restaurants, a 28,000-square-foot fitness center and 17,000 square feet of meeting space, in addition to the hotel.

The property, which would be developed by Metropolitan Partnership, is situated between the U.S. Capitol Building and the White House.

Hilton didn’t put a timeframe on how long it would take to redevelop the property.

There are 22 Waldorf Astoria hotels worldwide, though none in Washington.
