Playa Hotels & Resorts acquires two Dominican Republic hotels

Playa Hotels & Resorts has acquired the 582-room Occidental Grand Flamenco Puerto Plata Resort and the 540-room Occidental Allegro Punta Cana Resort, both all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic.

Playa purchased the hotels from Occidental Hotels & Resorts for an undisclosed amount.

Playa Hotels & Resorts, a Spanish private equity fund founded in 2006, has acquired a total of 12 properties in Mexico and the Dominican Republic with the addition of these two most recent acquisitions.

The Occidental Grand Flamenco Puerto Plata Resort is located within a resort complex of the same name on Playa Dorada beach. The hotel will be renamed the Barcelo Puerto Plata Hotel and will be rebranded as a Barcelo Premium level hotel.

The Occidental Allegro Punta Cana Resort will be operated by AMResorts and rebranded as the Sunscape Punta Cana Dominican Republic.

Playa is in active negotiations to acquire several additional hotels as well as land for the development of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama, the company said in a statement.
