Starting July 1, weary travelers will be
able to rent small cabins for a quick nap or a full night at
London's Gatwick Airport.
Called Yotel, the
46-cabin hotel in the South Terminal promises a "first class hotel
experience at affordable prices." Rates start at about
$50.
The cabins come
fully equipped with private bathrooms; free Wi-Fi and wired
Internet access; and entertainment systems and are "designed to
offer a solution to boring and expensive hotels around the globe",
said Yotel CEO Gerard Greene.
The cabins will be
bookable for four hours or more, offering delayed and transfer
passengers an option to relax, shower and nap without leaving the
airport. Room service, ordered by television, will be available 24
hours a day.
"In the 21st
century, luxury will be available to everybody at the right cost
and this is a taste of that future," commented Simon Woodroffe,
founder of YO!, Yotel's parent company. "Traveling can be a painful
experience so we are looking to making it as pleasurable as
possible for Yotel customers. We expect this radical approach to be
extremely popular with a range of consumers and are looking to
expand Yotel globally."
Rooms are available
beginning July 1 at www.yotel.com or (011)
44-207 100-1100.
