The Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers and the Sheraton
Phoenix Downtown will be the brand’s first U.S. hotels to have the Sheraton
Grand name.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Sheraton’s parent, created
the Sheraton Grand designation earlier this year as a way to delineate the
brand’s higher-end properties. Starwood plans to have 100 Sheraton Grand hotels
by 2017.
The renamed Sheraton Grand Chicago, which was built in 1992,
is located on the Chicago River and has 1,218 rooms. The property also has a
40,000-square-foot ballroom, one of the city’s largest.
The Sheraton Grand Phoenix has 1,000 rooms and hass 112,000
square feet of meeting space. The hotel was built in 2008.
Starwood in August announced the world’s first 10 Sheraton
Grand properties, which included hotels in Bangkok, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro and
Tokyo.
Earlier this week, Marriott International agreed to acquire Starwood
and for $12.2 billion.
