Starwood Buys Maui Resort

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, with an unaffiliated investment group, bought the 760-room Westin Maui at Maui's Kaanapali Beach Resort.

Starwood paid Kaukani Inc., a Japanese company, $132 million for the hotel. Starwood, which owns Sheraton and Westin, said the hotel will undergo "a significant revitalization,'' including rooms, pools, restaurants and public areas. Westin has managed the hotel since 1987, when it was opened by developer Chris Hemmeter.
