Starwood to manage Hotel Grande Bretagne

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Starwood will manage the historic Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens for the next 25 years under its Luxury Collection banner after inking a deal with the hotel's owner, Lampsa Greek Hotels Co.

The Hotel Grande Bretagne is part of Starwood's upscale CIGA portfolio, which includes several of Europe's top hotels, golf courses and marinas.

Starwood last week reiterated its intention to sell the CIGA brand in its entirety or in parts, although it said it intended to continue managing all CIGA assets.

As part of the new agreement, Lampsa closed the hotel in order to perform a top-to-bottom renovation that's scheduled to be completed in early 2003.

The hotel will reopen with a new 4,450-square-foot ballroom, health club, spa and rooftop swimming pool.
