Delta Vacations reported a surge in its bookings to the Caribbean, led by traffic to the Dominican Republic.
Dominican Republic travel has grown in the past two years as a result of increased flights and product enhancements.
"We have experienced tremendous growth throughout the Caribbean, with the Dominican Republic leading the way. In the last year, we have expanded our Caribbean business by 32%, with an 82% increase in room nights in the D.R. to date," said Elizabeth Moriarty, vice president of product development for MLT Vacations, operator of the Delta Vacations brand.
Within the D.R., Delta Vacations offers air-hotel packages to La Romana (four resorts), Punta Cana (36 resorts) and Santo Domingo (four hotels).
The percentage of passengers on Delta Vacations packages to the D.R. has doubled year-to-date over the same period in 2010, according to Moriarty.
"On some routes, such as Minneapolis-St. Paul to Punta Cana, 60% of the passengers are Delta Vacations customers," she said.
Delta Vacations recently added three destination-wedding properties in Punta Cana to its Lifestyle romance collection in the D.R.: Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana, Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana and Ocean Blue and Sand.
A honeymoon program will launch later this month at 10 resorts in the D.R., according to Moriarty.
