MILWAUKEE -- Bill La Macchia, owner of the Mark Travel Corp., based here, and Sun Country Airlines, purchased Minneapolis-based Trans Global Tours.

The tour operator, which had been the target of takeover speculation for weeks, handles 310,000 passengers a year on sun destination charter programs from Minneapolis and Dallas, marketed under the name Trans Global Vacations.

Trans Global will be operated by La Macchia Enterprises, a holding company, and will remain based in Minneapolis.

It will be run as a separate firm, and Trans Global president Ronald Weeks will remain president and chief executive officer.

La Macchia said that he plans to retain Trans Global's staff of 200 employees and expand the firm's reservations call center by 100 employees.
