Lindblad Expeditions launched a sea
kayaking program to Baja California, Mexico, a destination declared
a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.
A specialist in
expedition travel to remote and adventure destinations, Lindblad
has offered kayaking before as part of its programs. But in this
case, the operator has created what it calls a kayak-centered
voyage on which kayaking is a principal activity and mode of
locomotion.
The trips will
use the 60-passenger expedition ship Sea Voyager on an itinerary
that explores the Sea of Cortez visiting Isla Angel de la Guarda,
Isla Espiritu Santo, Isla Rasa, Isla San Marcos, Isla San Pedro
Martir and La Paz before returning to Los Cabos, Mexico.
As with most
Lindblad programs, the new kayaking programs are expedition cruise
ship-based trips and include educational talks by naturalist
expedition leaders. The Baja programs will feature Kira Salak, an
author and contributing editor to National Geographic Traveler
magazine. Lindblad veteran naturalist and expedition leader
Michelle Graves also will participate in the trips.
Three departures
are scheduled for the program in 2006: April 29, May 13 and June
17. Prices start at $2,490 per person, double occupancy, for an
eight-day voyage on the Sea Voyager.
