She had fought a long battle against breast cancer and suffered complications stemming from a bone marrow transplant.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and leader, Michelle Morgan,” said Signature COO Alex Sharpe in a statement. “Michelle will be missed greatly on both a personal and professional level by our members, our board of directors and our staff.”

Sharpe said that Morgan led the growth of Signature from a modest California co-op in 1991 generating just $30 million in sales to a $5 billion national travel consortia.

Morgan joined Signature as executive director in 1991 and was instrumental in driving the growth and success of the organization over the years.

“Throughout her tenure at Signature, Michelle led with courage, grace and humility,” Sharpe said. “Her unwavering commitment to all members is an example to us all and will be our guiding light going forward. We will miss Michelle greatly.”

Prior to joining Signature, Morgan was a marketing executive at Carlson Travel Network (Carlson Wagonlit Travel). She began her career in travel working for Ask Mr. Foster Travel Service.

No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.

Morgan is survived by her two daughters, Alisa and Deirdre, and by her four grandchildren: Edward, Jack, Hana and Bing.
