ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Galileo International said it will launch two
Internet sites by year's end, one that will enable consumers to
access their Galileo agencies and a second that will give the
public direct access to participating suppliers.
It said the supplier site will offer cyber fares, packages and
discounted air fares, hotels and rental cars.
Participating suppliers that agree to promote the site will be
able to sell their products on a net basis. Suppliers that do not
agree to promote the site will have to pay commissions to Galileo
to gain access to the site.
Galileo is accredited as a corporate travel department, but
officials could not immediately comment on whether Galileo would
have to apply for agency accreditation.
Paul Pucino, vice president strategy support at Galileo, said
said using the new site be cheaper for suppliers than selling
through Expedia.com and other similar sites because of the cost
savings.
"What is of paramount importance to vendors is to lower their
cost of distribution," he said.
The second offering will be a "super agency site," marketed by
Galileo on behalf of its agency subscribers. The site will have a
full complement of product available on the CRS system and the
products will be commissionable.
Names for the sites have not been determined.
