Priceline upgrades Penny, its AI-powered chatbot

Priceline is upgrading Penny, its AI-powered chatbot, expanding its capabilities from sharing information about hotels to flights, car rentals and vacation packages.

Penny can also suggest hotels and packages for travelers when they search for vacation options, modify itineraries, connect travelers with an agent and check on refund status.

The chatbot can be found on Priceline's homepage.

"After six months of expert, on-the-job training, Penny is ready to deliver an even more cohesive and personalized booking experience that saves people time and hassle," Priceline CEO Brett Keller said in a release. "This is a continuation of Priceline's tradition of revolutionizing travel with pioneering technology. We began fully integrating generative AI early last year, and our tools and features will only get better as customers and partners engage with them more and more."

Penny's updates were part of the latest drop of tech features and upgrades from Priceline, released Tuesday. 

Priceline has introduced personalized, generative AI-created itineraries into its iOS app, including dining and activity options, created using OpenAI's GTP-4 Turbo.

Other capabilities include a new wallet to save coupons, price watching for flights with notifications when fares change, and airplane cabin and seat comparisons.
