Costa Cruises’ salvage provider, Smit Salvage of Rotterdam, Netherlands, has drawn up a plan to recover the 500,000 gallons of fuel inside the crippled Costa Concordia.

The plan is expected to be implemented by the end of this week, Costa said.

The Concordia crashed into a rocky reef and is half-submerged off Giglio, one of seven islands that comprise the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, a protected area.
