The Bahamas’ new testing and travel protocols for visitors will eliminate the need to quarantine, effective Nov. 1.
Oct. 15 is still set for the reopening of tourism, but until Oct. 31 all incoming visitors must quarantine for 14 days or for the duration of their stay, whichever is shorter.
Beginning Nov. 1, the Bahamas will remove that 14-day requirement for visitors, who will be permitted to move about beyond the confines of their hotel or other accommodations.
New protocols require results of a negative PCR test taken within seven days (changed from five days) of their travel to the Bahamas. A rapid antigen test will be required upon arrival by air or sea in the Bahamas, followed by a second test on the fifth day of the visit. Results usually are returned within 20 minutes.
In addition, visitors must complete an electronic Bahamas Health Visa application before departure.
American Airlines has indicated that, beginning in late October, it will provide passengers traveling from Miami to the Bahamas with a rapid test before they boarding their flight. Those passengers will not be required to complete the rapid test when they arrive in the Bahamas.
The costs of the rapid tests on or after arrival will be included in the cost of the visa.
All islands in the Bahamas require social distancing and the wearing of masks in public places.
