In addition to closing the Bahamas' borders to travelers from the U.S., effective July 22, following an uptick in Covid-19 cases, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis issued additional restrictions for Grand Bahama Island, which has recorded 31 of the 49 cases since July 8.

The restrictions include: closure of Grand Bahamas' international and domestic borders to all flights and sea vessels to and from the island, effective July 22; a curfew from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily; closure of all beaches and parks until further notice; no ferry service between East End, Grand Bahama Island and Abaco; no indoor dining (although takeout and delivery are permitted); the closure of bars and fish fries; the prohibition of all gatherings, including church services and sports activities.

"If we address the current increase in confirmed cases as quickly as possible, Grand Bahama can return to a greater sense of normalcy as soon as possible," Minnis said during a televised speech to the nation on July 19.
