Harbour Village Beach Club on Bonaire has partnered with explorer and ocean conservationist Fabian Cousteau, grandson of Jacques Cousteau, to promote awareness of ocean conservation efforts among Caribbean travelers.
The partnership, which took effect on June 8, World Oceans Day, complements the resort's ongoing conservation efforts, according to Frank Gonzalez, Harbour Village managing director.
"We're excited to supplement our legacy as an environmentally-conscious resort by working with Fabian Cousteau to achieve our mission to enhance the conservation, education and exploration of the world's oceans, while exceeding guests' expectations," Gonzalez said.
As the resort's environmental ambassador, Cousteau will collaborate on issues including ocean preservation and climate change topics through a series of Global Ocean Summits to be held at the resort starting in January.
"My vision is for Harbour Village to be the center of a think tank on critical conservation and environmental issues facing our planet through two annual global summits and conferences to seek solutions to save our water planet while educating guests about the importance of ocean conservation," Cousteau said.
In addition, Cousteau will expand his nonprofit Ocean Learning Center, based in New York, to Harbour Village to offer educational programs and diving excursions for guests.
Also later this year, Harbour Village will host the first Fabian Cousteau Voyages small-group adventure. The trip will include air to Curacao where travelers will board a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research vessel and submarine for a week-long voyage which will end at the full-service marina at Harbour Village where guests will stay for several more days. Full details and pricing have not yet been announced.
The 38-suite resort, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, features a PADI Instructor Development Center, water sports center, a 64-slip marina with a mega-yacht dock, the beachside Kasa Coral pool, the La Balandra restaurant and bar and The Spa.
