Face masks are no longer mandatory in many places the Cayman Islands, including schools, although they are still required on public transport, at airports and in healthcare facilities and prisons.

In addition, social distancing no longer is required, according to Premier Alden McLaughlin during an online media briefing Aug. 26.

However, the border reopening issue has not yet been settled. McLaughlin said the date for the phased border reopening on Oct. 1 "is still in play."

It also still maintains plans for a 14-day quarantine requirement in a government facility and the wearing of a monitoring device, although the government and health officials are holding discussions to possibly ease some of these restrictions.

Public gatherings have increased from 50 up to 250 people, and the passenger capacity on excursion boats has increased to 250.

Scuba diving and snorkeling excursions are permitted, although all rental equipment must be disinfected for three days after use.
