The Celebrity Solstice will make two unscheduled calls to St. Kitts on Feb. 2 and March 3 in addition to the 47 calls already scheduled this winter.

Tourism Minister Ricky Skerritt said that the addition of the two new calls is a “clear vote of confidence” in the viability of St. Kitts as a port of call for the cruise line, following the Nov. 14 robbery of Celebrity Mercury passengers on a bus tour of the island.

Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises canceled their port calls for a week following the incident. The calls were reinstated after police instigated new security measures at the port and at popular visitor attractions. These measures included a tightened police presence in major tourist areas.

Gary Bald, Celebrity’s head of security, confirmed that cruise officials had been in ongoing contact with the police and tourism officials since the incident.
