STR data for the Caribbean/Mexico region through November revealed that the current room count totaled 677,540.

An additional 65,597 rooms were in construction or in the planning stages, with 27 Caribbean countries accounting for 30,131 rooms.

Luxury projects in the chain hotels in the Caribbean and Mexico accounted for 52%, or 12,387 rooms under construction or in the planning stages.

Leading the current hotel count in the Caribbean were the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.

The DR had the highest existing number of rooms in all categories, 74,435, followed by Cuba, with 65,850, Jamaica, with 24,933 and the Bahamas, with 14,425.

Mexico led all destinations in the region with 419,177 existing rooms.
