Flights to and from St. Maarten from the U.S. have been pushed back a second time and are now tentatively scheduled for Aug. 1.

The destination was slated to resume full operations at Princess Juliana Airport on July 1, but the introduction of U.S. flights were pushed back to July 15 at that time.

Government warned on July 8 that the new date is subject to change.

"This is an ever-changing situation regarding dates, which is why we are trying to minimize the postponements. Seeing the ongoing developments in the U.S., we decided that Aug. 1 is an appropriate date," the Daily Herald newspaper quoted tourism minister Ludmilla de Weever.

The article attributed the pushback to the growing number of cases in the U.S.

Strict health protocols for entry remain in place for other entrants, including proof of a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of travel, thermal temperature checks and mandatory mask wearing in the airport and in public areas on the island.
