Where the Star of the Seas is going, it doesn't need roads, and neither do the characters from its next Broadway-style show, "Back to the Future: The Musical."

The show, based on the 1985 movie "Back to the Future" and since turned into a musical, will be featured on Royal Caribbean International's second Icon-class ship. Star of the Seas is expected to debut on Aug. 31, 2025, sailing from Florida's Port Canaveral.

Royal Caribbean is working with the original creatives from the musical, including Bob Gale, screenwriter and co-creator of the film; John Rolando, director of the Broadway musical; and Chris Bailey, choreographer of the Broadway musical.

After two weeks of auditions, Royal Caribbean said the team will begin rehearsals next year.

"Back to the Future" has been a Broadway musical playing at New York's Winter Garden Theater since August 2023. However, the show's final Broadway performance will be on Jan. 5.
