To mark the summer solstice, Carnival Cruise Line is putting
a twist on Groundhog Day with a live Facebook event.
Carnival said it has enlisted a sloth named Bill to forecast
summer’s duration. It’s a take-off on the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, who
emerges in mid-winter and is said to predict six more weeks of cold if he sees
his shadow.
It isn’t clear how Bill will forecast whether summer’s
warmth will stretch past Labor Day. Nor is it clear where Bill will be issuing
his prediction, although presumably not Miami where summer’s warmth routinely
lasts until November.
Bill will make his debut on Carnival's Facebook page from 1
p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time on June 21.
