Dan Hanrahan is leaving his post as president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises in order to pursue an "exciting new opportunity," Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said today.
Hanrahan's resignation is effective at the end of July, according to RCCL.
He joined the company 13 years ago, first as a marketing executive at sister line Royal Caribbean International, where he was part of the team that created the line's influential "Get Out There" campaign. He was promoted to president of Celebrity in 2005, and added the CEO title in 2007. He also held responsibility for Azamara Cruises until mid-2009.
During Hanrahan's tenure at Celebrity the line went through a growth period with the debut of the Solstice class of ships. The vessels were extremely well received within the trade. In 2010, the line began an initiative to "Solsticize," or add Solstice-class features to, the rest of its fleet.
RCCL did not say what Hanrahan's new opportunity would be. The company has not announced a replacement.
"Royal Caribbean has been very fortunate to have benefited from Dan's leadership and vision over the past 13 years," Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO of RCCL, said in a statement.
"I wish him nothing but the best as he moves on to the next phase of what I'm certain will continue to be a very successful career."
