Holland America Line's new ship, the Rotterdam, departed Wednesday on its 14-day maiden cruise from Amsterdam to Fort Lauderdale.

The cruise line celebrated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting to welcome passengers onboard the transatlantic sailing.

Following the transatlantic crossing, the ship will spend its inaugural season from November through April in the Caribbean, sailing roundtrip cruises from Fort Lauderdale.

The 2,668-guest Rotterdam was delivered in July 2021 and is the third ship in Holland America's Pinnacle class. The ship arrived in its namesake city of Rotterdam last week.

Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will serve as its godmother in a naming ceremony in the spring.
