Lindblad Expeditions Holdings' board of directors authorized the construction of a polar expedition ship scheduled for delivery in 2021.

The ship would join three other polar-ready Lindblad ships: the National Geographic Explorer and National Geographic Orion, currently in operation, and the National Geographic Endurance, scheduled for delivery in early 2020.

"This is the next step of our long-term growth strategy to capitalize on the expanding demand for high-quality adventure travel," CEO Sven-Olof Lindblad said.

Last year, Lindblad launched the National Geographic Quest. In December 2018, a sister ship, the National Geographic Venture, will enter service.
