MSC Cruises has cut the first piece of steel for its fourth World-class ship, which will be named the MSC World Atlantic.
The World Atlantic will sail in the Caribbean out of Port Canaveral, Fla., beginning in the winter 2027-2028 season.
The new name was announced as MSC prepares to launch its second World-class ship, the World America, in Miami next month. The World America's naming ceremony is scheduled for April 9 at the line's new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal.
The ships are named after continents and oceans and do not necessarily reflect where the ships will be based, MSC said.
For example, the line also held a coin-laying ceremony for the MSC World Asia at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The Asia, which will enter service in the Mediterranean during the 2026-2027 winter season, will cruise to France, Italy, Spain and Malta.
