MSC Cruises has received approval to construct and operate an exclusive terminal in Barcelona. MSC anticipates that the facility will open in 2024.

The $40 million project will enable MSC to expand homeport operations in Barcelona, said MSC Cruises executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago.

The terminal will be equipped to supply shoreside electrical power and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ships. The MSC World Europa, a ship due to enter service in December 2022, will be LNG-powered.

MSC has partnered with renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill to build the 125,614-square-foot terminal.
