Disney Cruise Line said it has pushed back the debut of the Singapore-based Disney Adventure from Dec. 15 to March 10 because of unexpected shipbuilding delays.

In a letter to customers, Disney said, "This ship represents a bold new chapter for Disney Cruise Line as we transform a partially built vessel into a fully reimagined Disney experience at sea.

"As we bring this to life, we've encountered unexpected delays in the shipbuilding process. To ensure every detail meets the high standards our clients expect from Disney, we've made the difficult decision to postpone the Disney Adventure's maiden voyage to Mar. 10."

The ship originally was slated to sail as the Global Dream for Dream Cruises when it was owned by Genting Hong Kong. However, Genting Hong Kong went bankrupt and out of business in 2022. Disney bought the ship from liquidators, and the Meyer Werft yard in Germany continued to build it under new specifications from Disney and a new name, Disney Adventure.

The ship completed its first set of sea trials earlier this month.

Guests booked on the original maiden voyage will be transferred to the new maiden voyage with a 50% discount on the fare. If guests can't sail on that date, they can request a full refund and apply a 50% discount to a future cruise.

Guests on other canceled cruises will receive automatic refunds to their original payment method plus a 50% discount on a future cruise. The credit must be used by March 31for sailings departing on or before March 31, 2027.
