The Hassler Roma debuted the initial stages of a refurbishment in early March after a two-month closure. The refit is the first in the history of the hotel that has sat at the top of the city's famed Spanish Steps since 1893.

Sixth-generation hoteliers and siblings Roberto and Veruschka Wirth own the hotel and have overseen the project.

The early stages have included the renovation of the ground floor corridor, lounges and garden and the transformation of the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, Imago. A new spa, excavated beneath the Spanish Steps, will be unveiled in late 2026.

The property features 82 rooms, including 21 suites, and has hosted everyone from the cast of the 1953 Oscar-winning film "Roman Holiday" and honeymooners Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco to modern movie stars like Leonard DiCaprio and George Clooney.
