YTL Hotels marked the opening of Monkey Island Estate in Bray, England, this month.

The resort, located on seven acres overlooking the Thames River, features 41 rooms and suites, the Whisky Snug bar accessed by a secret staircase and the Floating Spa on the river.

The hotel's Floating Spa is located on a custom-built English canal boat.

The island itself has been hosting visitors, including monks, monarchs, aristocrats and writers, for 800 years and features landscaped English country gardens with mature trees and an expansive variety of British plants as well as a white-bricked pavilion and temple building.

The decor, which blends traditional and modern elements, was overseen by New York-based Champalimaud, which is known for its work on the Gainsborough Bath Spa and the Academy Hotel in the Bloomsbury district of London.

The Floating Spa, moored on the banks of the island, is located on a custom-built, traditional, wide-beam English canal boat and features treatments by Spa Village.

Dining options include the Monkey Island Brasserie, headed by executive chef William Hemming, which offers a modern take on British classics with produce sourced from the surrounding countryside.

Nightly rates start from about $355 per room, per night.
